70042 1960s London Euston
A pleasing view of 70042 Lord Roberts at the bufferstops here at Euston, its young fireman getting himself into the picture, his day's work done There's still a good load of coal in the tender by the look of things, and, as was often the case, the water filler top has been left open, not someting to be encouraged if they have taken water on any troughs on their run up to the Capital. This image captures the engine from an attractive angle, and the steam from the drain cocks and safety valves all add to the atmosphere of the scene. Delivered as a newly built engine in April1953 to Stratford on the Eastern Region, 70042 moved across to Kentish Town on the Midland Region five years later, eventually ending its days at Carlisle Kingmoor in in May1967.
