70020 1967-06-01 Winwick Junction

70020, formerly Mercury, comes down the WCML with an interesting freight; a pair of empty bogie car flats are near the front. Note the open gate for an occupation crossing despite a notice telling the users to close it, However there never seemed to be animals in this field and it is watched over by the box, so I guess it was not a problem.
Peter Kerslake adds "70020 was originally a Western Region engine from new in 1951 allocated to Old Oak Common. In 1956 it was reallocated to Cardiff Canton and moved to Carlisle Kingmoor in June 1961. "
