70049 1962-08-26 Cricklewood

Despite being in good condition it still managed to get lime stains down the boiler lagging, plus what looks like a crease full length of the cylinder lagging. D5400 would have been just over a month old when this was taken - and looks unused.

At this date, despite not having a shed plate fitted, 70049 was an Annesley engine working services on the former GC route to Marylebone. Neasden MPD had closed earlier that year so servicing of locomotives working into London on the GC transferred to Cricklewood, hence this picture. When Cricklewood later closed to steam the baton passed to Willesden.
