70025 1950s Swindon
The first of the class to be allocated to Cardiff Canton from new, 70025 Western Star makes an attractive picture captured on film across the tracks here at Swindon with the down Red dragon fom Paddington to South Wales. Greeted favourably by the enginemen at Cardiff their Britannias were immediately put to good use on the top link workings from the Welsh Capital to London, and when the Old Oak Common and Laira members of the class were later displaced by the Diesels those ten earlier Western Region examples also found themselves moved to Canton shed where they joined the five already there.
