Brand new Britannia Pacfic No 70044, fitted with Westinghouse brake pumps, approaches Shrewsbury station with what will become a slow train to Crewe on June 11,1953.
This would have been a running-in turn which it worked from Crewe and in order to turn round would have set forward along the Wolverhampton lines before reversing round the triangle, and is seen here entering the station from the route to Sutton Bridge. Interestingly there is another photo on the same day showing it Light Engine at the same end of the station so it may have worked several locals that day.
