70041 1957-06-23 Norwich

BR 7MT 4-6-2 No 70041 Sir John Moore with the 2.53pm Norwich-Liverpool Street via Cambridge leaving Norwich and heading for Trowse on 23 June 1957.

Peter Kerslake says "With a splendid mixture of rolling stock, including a veteran Gresley at the head 70041 'Sir John Moore' heads away from Norwich bound for Liverpool Street when the class were the mainstay of express services between Liverpool Street and Norwich.
By 1960, however, the invading Diesels were increasingly finding themselves on such workings and 70041, in company with 70039 and 70040 went directly from Norwich to Immingham where they were warmly welcomed and rostered upon express services between Cleethorpes and Kings Cross.
Three years later, however, in the mass transfer of the class to thee Midland Region 70041 was despatched to Carlisle Upperby and condemned from the adjacent Kingmoor depot in April of 1967."
