70020 1961-04-13 Shrewsbury

BR Britannia 4-6-2 No 70020 Mercury after arrival with an express for Manchester, (the 5.6 from Cardiff) on 13 April 1961.

Peter Kerslake says "With a single lamp in place 70020 'Mercury' is about to run tender first down to Shrewsbury Depot to be readied for its return to Cardiff Canton. At this time in April 1961 'Mercury' had been housed at Canton since December of 1956 after having been transferred there after spending five years from newly allocated to Old Oak Common in July of 1951.
'Mercury's' time at Canton ended in September of 1961, one of the wholesale transfer of their 'Britannias' to the Midland Region, when it went to Carlisle Kingmoor, the first of nine homes on that Region before it ended its time back there in January of 1967."
