70032 1950s Stockport

70032 1950s Stockport

Longsight 9A allocated BR 7MT 4-6-2 No 70032 Tennyson working a Manchester express arriving at Stockport Edgeley in the 1950s.

Peter Kerslake says "Not as widely travelled as many of its fellow 'Britannias' 70032 'Tennyson' went to Holyhead Motive Power Depot from new in December of 1952, working the boat trains to and from Euston for just a month before moving to Manchester's Longsight Depot the following month, then to the nearby Trafford Park Depot in February of 1960.
Subsequent moves took 70032 to London's Willesden Depot from January of 1961 but it returned northwards in October of 1964 to Carlisle, firstly to Kingmoor and then to Upperby the following month from where, in company with a lot more of the class, it was condemned in September of 1967.

This view would be from when it was housed at Longsight, doubtless working between Manchester and Euston."
