70025 1962-10-29 Lancaster
The X in the chalked Reporting Number would, I think, denote a special working but 70025 Western Star, still bearing its nameplates, heads a fast fitted parcels here in this view, with the correct lamp code in position. 70025 had been the first of the Britannias to be allocated to Cardiff Canton from new in September1952, to be joined shortly thereafter by the following four of the class, where they were warmly welcomed by footplatemen, and worked to advantage by that Depot's Running Foremen on main line express duties between Cardiff and Paddington. In 1961, however Western Star left the Western Region for the Midland Region's Aston Depot, later moving to Crewe North and South sheds, Llandudno Junction, and finallyto Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was condemned in December1967.
