70029 1960s Golborne
A really nice shot of 70029 Shooting Star with the wind in the right direction for the cameraman and a lovely open landscape with the four main lines approaching Golborne heading southbound. 70029 has an express Perishables according to the lamp code and by the look of the vans, the engine now spending its last years on the Midland Region, a far cry from its days on the Western at Cardiff Canton, the last of the initial five of its class to be allocated to Wales from new in late 1952. These initial five at Canton were later joined by ten other Britannias in late 1956, transferred from Laira and Old Oak Common, but this later high mileage batch were in poor condition by this period in time and not really wanted by the shedmasters at Canton, all fifteen eventually moving to the Midland by late 1961.
