70024 on 7.15am Plymouth-Paddington The rather large 600 chalked on Vulcan's smokebox door confirms this working as being the 7.15.a.m. from Plymouth North Road to Paddington, seen here at Westbury. Legend tells us that Laira retained a set of stencils which produced a much neater set of Reporting Numbers and which have been seen in a number of published photgraphs over the past years, but they clearly have not been used on this day. Vulcan was one of the five Britannias surviving at the end1967 which had all begun their working lives in the ' fifties on the Western Region, being withdrawn from Carlisle Kingmoor at the end of that December .
