70045 46240 1962 Edge Hill

Two spotters chat with the driver of Britannia 70045 Lord Rowallan as it waits alongside Coronation 46240 City of Coventry at Edge Hill in early 1962. The Britannia, named by the Chief Scout in July 1957, was allocated to Neasden shed, for use on the ex-GCR line, from October 1961 until July 1962; it was transferred there from Newton Heath along with Nos. 70014, 70015, 70048 and 70049. The Britannias, which apparently were not in the best condition, were surplus following the transfer of four Royal Scots and a rebuilt Patriot from Kentish Town, themselves displaced by new Sulzer Type 4's.
