4236 1960s Tondu

4236 1960s Tondu

Note the breakdown train coaches, one a 6 wheeler
Stuart Davies says "The location is Tondu and the Shedplate (86F) is clearly visible. The Shedcode was amended to 88H from the 1st January 1961. 4236 was allocated to Tondu from January 1957 until January 1962.
The breakdown Vans are No 48 (Tool) and No 49 (Staff) "

Peter Kerslake adds "Mr. Churchward's first heavy mineral tank in the form of 4201 emerged from Swindon Works in 1910 , but it was to be nearly two years later that the first of the initial 4202 to 4221 locomotives entered service , tank engine versions of his 1903 " 2800 "class of tender engines.
Designed with the increasing Welsh mineral traffic in mind virtually the whole of the class , including subsequent locomotives built as late as 1940 , as expected , spent their lves allocated to, and working from , Motive Power Depots within South Wales , the only real exceptions being 4206 , 4242 and 4247 which went down to St . Blazey in the' fifties to work the china clay traffic to and from Fowey Docks and Par .
A number were rebuilt with a trailing pony truck following the first war and declining mineral traffic , and with an increased coal capacity of five and a half tons were then capable of longer distance heavy freight work".
