The sole member of its class , little 2198 dated back to 1910 , built by Hudswell Clarke for the Burry Port and Gwendreath Valley Railway , this engine was one of a number of locomotives from various South Wales Motive Power Depots built by a variety of builders taken into Great Western stock in 1947.
Subequently rebuilt by Swindon 2198 was still allocated to 87F , which was Llanelly , in 1956 .
Many of the absorbed such locomotives were subsequently used following their withdrawal on general shunting duties within the Swindon Works complex .
