67427 1954 Guide Bridge

67427 1954 Guide Bridge

This 1954 view at Guide Bridge Station, illustrates the wonderfully incongruous sight of half a century's progress towards the electrification of Britain's principal railway routes. In the event, (excluding the Tyne & Wear Metro), both 1500v. DC electric operation and steam traction were to be discarded within two decades of this scene.

Ex-Great Central Rly. Robinson 'C13' 4-4-2 Tank No. 67427 was built at Gorton in Dec. 1904 as GCR No. 29 and was withdrawn in January 1958. BR 'EM1' Bo+Bo Electric was also built at Gorton in Dec. 1951 and was withdrawn in July 1981 as TOPS No. 76029.
