Down car ferry train

Peter Kerslake says "An unusual load here on the Welsh side of the Severn Tunnel , with a number of vehicles sheeted over doubtless to protect them whilst traversing the Tunnel.
This view dates from before the Severn Bridge was open and to get from one side of the Severn by car either meant a long trip via Gloucester or a long wait for the little ferry running from Aust on the Gloucestershire bank acoss to Beachley on the Welsh bank of the Severn.
At the date of this view the rail link from Sharpness to Lydney by way of the Severn rail bridge had been severed following the accidental destruction of part of the bridge on the night of 25th October 1960."
