6118 1962c Whitland
Arrived in West Wales in June 1962 for a 15 month holiday before transfer to Reading
Whitland Motive Power Depot was very much a basic affair , a mere subshed of Neyland until that larger establishment sadly closed in early September , 1963 when Whitland then became more important for just three years until its closure in January of 1966 .
Whitland Depot had been improved to a certain degree by the Western Region , but still lacked the refinements of the larger Depots and whilst its last few steam locomotives lingered on until December 1964 the Depot was thereafter used in its final two years just as a stabling facility fo Diesel shunters .
The abandonment of such Depots as Neyland and Whitland invariably had a devastating effect on the local ares as many of the workforce were employed on railway duties by the Western Region in one capacity or another , particularly in such remote and isolated areas.
