On November 12, 1954, Scottish Region J88 class 0-6-0T No. 68341 ran away on Kirkcaldy docks and plunged off the harbour wall into the Firth of Forth. The crew managed to jump off in time, but the loco had to be fished out of the sea by a breakdown crane two days later and never returned to service.
