46424 1965-08 Thelkeld
Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 No 46424 described by the photographer as the up 'Lakes Express' climbing from Thelkeld to Troutbeck in August 1965.
However as Tony Jenkinson says "The train illustrated doesn't appear to be the summer Workington / Keswick to London service (the title 'The Lakes Express' had stopped being used after summer 1964 although the untitled train to London ran in summer 1965). Nor does it look to be the dated summer Saturday relief train to Manchester and Crewe.
I'd hazard a guess that, made up of non corridor stock, it's either a strengthened loco hauled train in lieu of the regular local DMU service or a holiday extra returning to Carlisle possibly at the time of the August Bank Holiday."
