1363 1961-07-21 Plymouth Laira
Peter Kerslake says "With the estuary of the River Plym and Saltram Park in the background Laira's 1363 is on shed duties at its home shed, one of three of the class of five built in 1910, their short wheelbase intended for dockside duties.
Mainly working in Millbay Docks at Plymouth and frequently dealing with stock for the Ocean Mail Boat Trains one was often also engaged on light freight workings in and around the Plymouth and Devonport areas.
Following withdrawal in November of 1962 1363 seen here suffered damage to its buffer beam and drawbar and was unable to be towed away for scrapping from Laira's Roundhouse which proved fortunate as it was left there but subsequently saved from the breakers' torches thanks to the Great Western Society who purchased it for restoration and preservation."
