Peter Kerslake says "I must admit to not knowing much of the history of the Southern Region's 30757 Earl of Mount Edgecumbe and 30758 Lord St. Levan apart from remembering them in my younger days in the early 1950s and seeing them sometimes working light engine through Plymouth's North Road station on their way to or from the Southern Region shed at Friary at which they were officially based. Although they worked exclusively on the Callington branch from Bere Alston on the Southern's North Dartmoor route between Plymouth and Exeter, they would come down to their home shed at Friary for routine maintenance work".
