62663 1958-08-23 near Paton Road
On the 6.50pm Mansfield-Nottingham Victoria There is a man in his dressing gown looking through the hole in the fence.
Peter Kerslake says "The evening sunshine's shadows are certainly lengthening here at Paton Road as "Improved Director" 62663 "Prince Albert" heads a five coach 6.50 p.m. "All Stations" working from Mansfield to Nottingham Victoria in August of 1958, a splendid Gresley Brake leading the formation.
My 1956 shedbook has this engine at Lincoln in 1956 but I suspect that in the year of this view it was at Sheffield Darnall depot, probably having left Lincoln in early 1957.
Condemned in May of 1960 "Prince Albert" had served for sixty years, having been built in March of 1920.
I think that the gentleman in the dresssing gown needs some help with his fencing which seems to have seen better days!"
