Ex-Great Central Railway Robinson '11F' (LNER 'D11') class 4-4-0s Nos. 62664 'Princess Mary' (pilot) and 62662 'Prince of Wales' (train). Built at Gorton in May 1920 (62664) and Mar. 1920 (62662) as GCR Nos. 510 and 508. They were both withdrawn in Aug. 1960. Perhaps one of the most spectacular railtours ever, was the Ian Allen 'Trains Illustrated Excursion' that ran on 12th May 1956. Seen here in a classic Yorkshire Pennine scene at Todmorden, the veteran pair are hauling a 10-coach train that includes 8 Pullman cars, this leg was from Manchester to Barnsley. In the Calder Valley, the speed according to observers was slow enough to 'chase' by car, continually getting ahead for yet another photograph!
