Peter Kerslake says "At least some stalwart has had a go at cleaning the painted name if nothing else on 62679 "Lord Glenallan" seen here on her home shed at Edinburgh Haymarket in May of 1953, her smokebox door open but with a well filled tender.
Built in October of 1924 "Lord Glenallan", in company with sister engine 62683 "Hobbie Elliott" were the first two of Sir Nigel Gresley's later series of "Improved Ditecors" to be condemned together and quite early in September of 1958, rather suprisingly earlier than any of Mr. Robinson's original eleven members of the class which were several years older than Sir Nigel's twenty four.
The sole "Improved Director" making it into 1962 was 62685 "Malcolm Graeme", the last survivor remaining on duty until January of 1962."
