The wonderful names bestowed upon classes of ex-NBR 'D30s' and GCR designed 'D11' had been culled from characters, places and events in the immensely popular literary works of Sir Walter Scott. The result was names like (as here') 'D11/2' No. 62686 'The Fiery Cross'. This was a burning cross carried from town to town as a rallying call for Clans to take up arms. So now you know! This superb photograph was taken at Glasgow Eastfield MPD and dated June 1955.
