62664 1951-11-11 Manchester Central

Peter Kerslake says "Improved Director" 62664 "Queen Mary" looks to have been turned out well by the cleaners at her home at Manchester Trafford Park in this 1951 view from Manchester Central, the locomotive and her sisters at Trafford Park working frequently on the passenger rosters between Manchester and Chester in particular at this time.
Built at the nearby Gorton Works in May of 1920 "Princess Mary" lasted in service until August of 1960, the "Improved Directors" being The Great Central's Chief Mechanical Engineer Mr. John Robinson's development from his earlier1913 design of the "D10" original "Director" class, but equipped with several refinements including a larger cab and improved cylinders."
