4130 1963-10-25 Gloucester Central
On a Hereford train, as witnessed by the water running off the running plate after it has just used the water crane.
Peter Kerslake says "Although numbered in the "4100 to 4179" series this class of passenger tank engines were classiifid as being in the "5101" series, with 4130 seen here being the first of the batch of ten built at Swindon in 1939, the design incorporating a four ton coal capacity together with water capacity of 2000 gallons.
Many examples were to be found working secondary passenger duties in and around the London area whilst others followed earlier versions as pilot and banking engines, a number undertaking such duties within the Severn tunnel as well as at Newton Abbot on the South Devon banks.
4130 had been based at Newport in the mid 'fifties but as a Gloucester engine she would have been used on local passenger duties as seen here in addition to banking over Sapprton bank and local freight workings."
