5101 1958-09 Solihull
The pioneer rebuilt ‘51xx’ No.5101 waits for the signal at Solihull in September 1958. It had been transferred to Leamington from Stourbridge in July 1957 and stayed until withdrawal in and shows off a newly acquired coat of Great Western style lined green livery.
It was the first new member of the class to be built, in November 1929, the last of the ‘51xx’, which were newly renumbered from ‘31xx’, engines having been built over twenty years earlier. The new locomotives were an updated version of these and could be distinguished by the outside steam pipes, and the reintroduced copper capped chimney and brass safety valve bonnets.
