51xx 1957-04 Wood End
Wood End Platform was opened on in July 1908 when the line was first opened for passenger traffic and had two platforms 400 feet long with shelters. The suffix ‘Platform’ was removed in July 1924 when it was became simply as Wood End. The station was just over eight miles from Tyseley Junction and located at the bottom of a cutting over 50 feet deep. It was immediately adjacent to Wood End Tunnel, the only significant engineering structure on the North Warwickshire line. A ‘51xx’ 2-6-2T pauses at Wood End with a train from Birmingham. Unusually it includes a fitted short wheelbase ventilated van as the leading vehicle. The station sign at this end of the platform was a very non-standard affair, consisting of a small board with beaded edges, the name being simply painted on. All the other signs were of standard GWR design.
