5101 1961-07-09 Leamington
‘5101’ 2-6-2T No.5101 on 9th July 1961 in front of the typical Great Western Railway combined coaling stage and water tower at Leamington shed. It was the first new member of the class to be built, in November 1929, the last of the ‘51xx’, newly renumbered from ‘31xx’, engines having been built over twenty years earlier. The new engines were an updated version of these and could be distinguished by the outside steam pipes, and the reintroduced copper capped chimney and brass safety valve bonnets. No.5101 arrived at Leamington from Stourbridge in July 1957 and stayed until withdrawal in 1963.
