9547 1937-08-03 Eastfield MPD
Ex-North British Railway Reid 'G' (LNER 'Y9') class 0-4-0 Saddletank No. 9547. Built at Cowlairs in August 1899 as NBR No. 547 and withdrawn in August 1960 as BR No. 68123.
Most 'Pugs' had long lives, because until the advent of the small diesel shunter, there were no alternatives for use in docks, wharves, factories and the like, where tight radius track curvature might be encountered. Thus a locomotive like 9547, pictured here at Glasgow's Eastfield MPD in August 1937, would give over sixty years of service. Note the small square NBR class plate on the cab side sheet, also the spare springs stacked against the shed wall each marked with the recipient class.
