LNWR 7F 0-8-0 No 9263 in c1935. I suspect this was taken in the sorting sidings near Crewe south shed, the photographer being a frequent visitor to Crewe. 9263 is a G1 loco built new as such in 1916 (LNWR no.1729) and an early recipient of a Belpaire firebox which was fitted in 1924 while still carrying its LNWR no. It received its LMS no in 1927 and it was withdrawn in 1949 without getting its BR no. It has a Cooke type 3 tender with cab attached and appears to have acquired Stanier pattern buffers which started to be fitted from 1933 onwards. The smokebox door handle is still of the LNWR pattern
