253 1926 Oxenholme

253 1926 Oxenholme

The final flowering of the LNWR 0-8-0s were the 60 class G2 engines built at Crewe in 1921-22. Here No 253 starts the climb to Grayrigg at Oxenholme with a down mixed goods in 1926. A wonderful picture of one of these locos. It was one of a batch of sixty G2 class built new from 11/21 to 10/22, 253 being one of the first. It is in its as built condition here with all the standard LNWR features and in plain black livery. It became LMS 9401 in 1927 and its sister 9395 (ex LNWR 485) is now preserved.
