1369 1950s Swindon
The little shunter has no insignia on her tanks. In the background is a rare view of an Ocean Mails van with its curious outside framing. Estimated date.
This photograph shows 1369 at her first home at Swindon shed to which she was allocated from new in 1934 until a move to Weymouth took place in April of 1960.
Five of the six members of the class were allocated to Swindon when built , with just 1371 going to South Wales , the five being used on duties within the works and local area until , following a brief spell at Reading , 1369 was transferred to Weymouth in April of 1960 and later to Wadebridge in Cornwall in the summer of 1962.
Withdrawn in November of 1964 from Wadebridge , 1369 was saved following a joint appeal mounted by the Dart Valley Railway and the Great Western Society , and is now working on the South Devon Railway from Buckfastleigh
Russ Elliott points out that 1369 seems to be the only one of the class fitted with steps on the LHS of the bunker. Not sure when this was done. (Your next pic in this sequence shows no steps.)
