Inside Roundhouse - the diesels are coming but they are only Claytons! Dave Darwin in response to a question from me has told me that the Claytons came to Barrow Hill to replace the Ivatt 4MTs on local trip work to all local collieries on the Doe Lea Branch, Markham, Bolsover Coalite, Bolsover Colliery, Glapwell and Oxcroft collieries. They also worked T141 taking scrap steam engines to Wards scap yards at Killamarsh and Beighton and went up the Norwood branch to the Yorkshire Tar Distillers plant.Other trips When taking Garston traffic sometimes they worked in multiple to Rotherwood, also worked to Tinsley and Ickles at Rotherham Road. They were unreliable therefore only at Barrow Hill for about 2yrs as the manufacturers said that they where not suitable for trip working (good job they had two engines). From Barrow Hill they went up to Scotland and were unreliable there too. They where replaced at Barrow Hill by EE type 1 or as they ars known today Class 20s, one also worked on The East Midland Rambler on the rear from seymour to Glapwell (top an Tail).
