GWR DRC 13 1936 Swansea Landore
Peter Kerslake says "Railcar number 13 seen here at Swansea's Landore M.P.D. in 1936 is in pristine condition having just been built that same year, its handsome appearance drawing similarities with the very first railcars from two years earlier.
Whilst the original varients had bodywork by Park Royal the series from number 5 to 16 were bodied at the Bristol Road works of the Gloucester Railway Carriage Company and had not just the single A.E.C. power unit but were fitted with two, thereby doubling their power output to 242 h.p.
This original chocolate and cream fully lined out livery with the G.W.R. Mmonogram on the central door shows the sleek lines to advantage, and this image is unusual in that just one set of valances over one bogie has been removed to ease maintenance with the other still in place."
