W7W 1950s Knightwick station

W7W 1950s Knightwick station

Ray Viney says 'I think this is Knightwick station on the Bromyard branch' -he is correct! My 1956 shedbook tells me that Railcar W7W seen here was one of six allocated to Worcester at that time so this might well be a working between Worcester and Monmouth .The first such Railcar was brought into service by the Great Western in 1933 and the early members of the class were to find such favour with their passengers travelling the express services between Cardiff and Birmingham that in 1934 three more were constructed incorporating a miniature buffet , but their success was such that it soon became necessary to replace the Railcars with conventional steam hauled stock as passenger numbers between Cardiff and Birmingham exceeded the Railcars' capacities.A total of 38 Railcars saw service , with the last four being built in 1940 and 1941 designed to work in pairs , often with a strengthening coach marshalled between the two Diesels
