W14W 1958c Birmingham Snow Hilll
Diesel railcar No.W14W stands in No.4 bay platform in “blood and custard” livery and probably working a Dudley service in 1958, on which it was a regular at this date. No.W14W had a 70 seat capacity and was powered by two AEC bus engines. Unlike No.W25W it does not have conventional buffers and drawgear and therefore could not work with a strengthening coach; it was withdrawn in August 1960. There were many variants in design and use of the former G.W.R. Diesel Railcars , the class totalling 38 with 30 still in service in late 1957 . W14W seen here was one of three allocated to Stourbridge Junction (84F) sharing her home there with W8W and W29W and displays her nicely smoothed and rounded leading end with her four warning horns clearly visible together with the unconventional style of buffers. At the end of January , 1956 the 35 Railcars remaining in service were distributed over no fewer than thirteen Motive Power Depots , with Worcester having the most with six , whilst Bristol St. Philip's Marsh , Southall and Reading were close behind with five each , the remainder being spread far and wide over the Western Region from South Wales to Oxford and even one at Weymout
