L&YR 653 1923 Huddersfield
Ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Aspinall '5' class 2-4-2 Tank No. 653. Built at Horwich in June 1899 and withdrawn in January 1946 as LMS No. 10841.
If you were to stand where the LNWR locomotive on the extreme left is, you would see that Hudderfield Station has one of the most impressive frontages of any British station. The L&YR had been absorbed into the L&NWR in 1922 and this is why all the insignia had been removed from 653 seen here in 1923. The train illustrated is a 'local' and will shortly be setting off eastbound along the Calder Valley via Mirfield and towards Wakefield.
My mum used 'Vim' for scouring our kitchen sink, you can still buy it I believe!
