Two L&YR 2-4-2Ts were transferred to the Midland Division in March 1956, 50646 going to Bedford for use on the Hitchin line, and 50650 to Wellingborough as a replacement for MR 1P 0-4-4T 58080 which had just been withdrawn. It was used on the Higham Ferrers branch but only lasted a few months and was withdrawn at the end of September. 50646 survived longer, although it spent much time in store and was not withdrawn until October 1958.
