4700 1950s Bristol

4700 1950s Bristol

An interesting and unusual shot of 4700 running into Bristol Temple Meads from the West bearing Express Passenger headlamps and a Midland style Reporting Number, I wonder where the train has originated, and to where it is heading?
This might be a lucky day for the enthusiasts on the platform as although Bristol St. Philip's Marsh had sister engines 4703 and 4706 on its allocation this particluar engine was an Old Oak Common member of the class.
Known unofficially as the " Night Owls "and rostered mainly to fast fitted freights working to and from London but being engaged on such duties mainly during the nightime hours those engines based at Old Oak would also sometimes find themselves on a West of England express passenger working on Summer Saturdays when motive power at Old Oak was in short supply.
During their later years they looked particularly handsome in the green lined livery applied to some of the class as they went through Swindon Works.
