Ex-London & North Western Railway Webb 'Coal Tank' (LMS '1F') class 0-6-2 Tank No. 27638. Built at Crewe in January 1883 as L&NWR No. 2483 and withdrawn in July 1936.

With the large workshops building at Rugby MPD behind, 'Coal Tank' 27638 sits in the sun on a sunny March day in 1935. According to official records a mechanical motor push-pull system had been fitted by the LMS in June 1925 but had been removed by the time of this photo, probably having being transferred to a 2-4-2T around 1931 when many of this class were adapted.
