61111 1950-07-29 Charwelton
Ex-LNER Thompson 'B1' class 4-6-0 No. 61111. Built by NBL of Glasgow in December 1946 as LNER No. 1111 and withdrawn in September 1962.
The Great Central Railway's 'London Extension was to be the last main line into London and inevitably was the first to close. Charwelton Station, seen here in July 1950, opened in March 1899 and closed in March 1963 prior to the line itself in September 1966. In happier times, 61111 passes the box with a down train for Rugby. The line curving off in the right foreground lead to the Ironstone mines.
