61045 1951c Ipswich
This is the London end of Ipswich station, a fine location for the railway cameraman. With the tunnel mouth just out of camera range on the extreme right this spot consequently provided the opportunity of recording on film incoming workings as they emerged from the tunnel into the station itself. Norwich have turned out their B1 61045 in fine style and it pauses briefly at Ipswich on a Liverpool Street working from North Norfolk at a time when such workings were regularly handled by these locomotives in addition to many of the named Sandringham class.
All was to change in 1952, however, with the introduction of the BR Standard Britannias to this former Great Eastern section, with the Britannias making remarkable inroads into the services between Norwich and Liverpool Street and thereafter becoming the mainstay of these workings for the next ten years or so.
