61142 1950s Birmingham New Street

61142 1950s Birmingham New Street

No. 61142, a Thompson ‘B1’ from Immingham shed, passes No.2 Signal Box as it arrives at Platform 9 from Cleethorpes. This was a regular daily working which brought the ex-LNER class to Birmingham. It would go to Saltley shed for coal and water before returning to the Eastern Region. Withdrawn from Nottingham’s Colwick shed in September 1963 No.61142 would return to the West Midlands for its final journey when it went Cashmore's of Great Bridge for scrapping in December.

Ed Purcell notes "It was very rare to see any LNER loco south of New Street on the Bristol line. I only ever saw one - on a foggy evening at Northfield heading SW".
