The buildings of Mirfield MPD still remained intact until relatively recently. Now the site is cleared and the inevitable housing estate occupies the site. Basking in the Calder Valley sunshine in May 1965, longtime York-allocated, ex-LNER Thompson B1 No. 61018 'Gnu' still (remarkably) sports its unique 3-letter nameplates. 61018 was built at Darlington in Feb. 1947 as LNER No. 1018 and was withdrawn in Nov. 1965.
