It would not be long before York North Yard would become redundant. However in October 1965 there is still a fair degree of activity as (now nameless) ex-LNER Thompson 'B1' 4-6-0 No. 61040 'Roedeer' gets under way with a southbound freight. I have no idea if the inclusion of a brake tender behind the loco served any useful purpose, but it's certainly a rare sight! 61040 was built by NBL of Glasgow in Apr. 1946 as LNER No. 1040 and was withdrawn in July 1966.
