7011 1960s Reading MPD
A really nice high viewpoint from which to capture all the movements on shed. It was situated between and below the main lines to the West of England and that to Bristol where they diverged just west of Reading General station on the run out from Paddington. 7011 Banbury Castle was destined to remain in service until as late as February 1965 , being one of the allocation of Castles drafted from Worcester to Oxley from where during the 1964 Summer Services it was used, in company with the few remaining members of the class, on the Saturday additional passenger workings between the West Midlands and Bristol. Those duties entailed a run to Temple Meads in the morning, and following a quick turn round and "once over" at Barrow Road shed (Bristol Bath Road by then being closed to steam) a return in the evening back to Birmingham and Wolverhampton. This was, however, to be their final year on those services.
