Great Northern Railway Stirling '8ft. 0in. Single' class 4-2-2 No. 1007. Built at Doncaster in March 1895 and withdrawn in January 1913.

A favourite vantage point for railway photographers was the turntable at the north end of Nottingham Victoria Station. The parapet of the adjacent Thurland Street tunnel can just be seen above the tender.The subject here in July 1911 is 1007, the penultimate of the 53 Stirling 8ft. 0in. 'Singles' to be built in March 1895. The solid splasher and domed boiler introduced in Henry Ivatt's regime are the principal visible changes from the earlier class members. The era of the 'Single' was short-lived and in spite of steam sanding improving their adhesion, by WW1 nearly all such machines had been withdrawn. They were outclassed by more powerful machines that could handle and keep time with increasing train weights.
