44057 1960s Bromford Bridge

44057 1960s Bromford Bridge

Over a hundred ‘4F’ 0-6-0s were still in service as late as 1965 when No.44057 was photographed running tender first through Bromford Bridge. It has a yellow stripe on the cabside indicating that it was not permitted to work under the overhead wires south of Crewe and its coal-railed tender has a chalked target number ‘12’ and Class K headlamps indicating it is on a local pick-up working, probably to Water Orton sidings. No.44057 had been transferred to Bescot from Gorton in December 1964 and moved to Saltley in July before withdrawal in November.
